At the heart of the cranes are the hoisting winches, which are used to move loads ranging from 6 t to 60 t for several hours a day. The trend toward ever-taller buildings also means that the hoisting distances of cranes are becoming increasingly longer. As a result, hoisting winches now have up to 1,000 m of rope wound onto them.

This results in loads that also affect the drive technology used. The hoist gearbox, in particular, plays a key role here. In addition to high power density, long-term reliability is a decisive criterion when selecting a hoist gearbox. Additional requirements, such as short delivery times and a straightforward gear selection process, are particularly important to crane manufacturers when choosing a gear supplier.
